FLOODING EXPECTED IN PARTS OF THE GULF OF CARPENTARIA CATCHMENTS FROM SATURDAY

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Lincoln is moving west-southwest across the Carpentaria district of the Northern Territory. The monsoon trough lies just south of the Gulf of Carpentaria and is expected to gradually weaken over the next few days.

Catchments across the Flood Watch area remain wet from rainfall recorded over the past few weeks and in recent days.

Daily rainfall totals of 30 - 60 mm are likely during Saturday and into Sunday, with possible isolated daily rainfall totals of 100 mm and higher.

Significant river, creek, and stream rises are likely with heavy rainfall, with renewed minor to major flooding possible across parts of the Flood Watch area. Higher than normal tides are expected across the Gulf of Carpentaria coast during Saturday.

Many roads, and possibly primary and secondary highways may be affected. Some communities and homesteads may become isolated. Check road conditions before travelling.

Settlement Creek
Nicholson River(Major flood warning is current)
Leichhardt River
Upper Flinders River
Lower Flinders River(Major flood warning is current)
Cloncurry River
Norman River(Minor flood warning is current)
Gilbert River(Generalised flood warning is current)

Flooding is no longer expected in the following catchments: Mitchell River, Staaten River.
