DAMAGING TO LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, EASING DURING THE
AFTERNOON.
Weather Situation: A vigorous cold front crossed Tasmania this
morning and a significant southwesterly gradient remains in its
wake as a large high pressure approaches from the west.
Strong to DAMAGING WINDS of 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts up to
110 km/h are likely over parts of Tasmania, particularly over
elevated terrain and also exposed areas along the southeast
coastline. This includes the Hobart area.
Locally DESTRUCTIVE WIND GUSTS in excess of 125 km/h are also
possible over Western Tiers and its immediate adjacent slopes until
the early afternoon.
Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds over inland
parts of the south, and also the elevated terrain in the northeast
of the state during the early afternoon, this includes the Hobart
area. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS are still likely to continue about the
Western Tiers and the immediate adjacent slopes, as well as exposed
coastal areas and islands in the far southeast until the late
afternoon or early evening.
Locations which may be affected include Sheffield, Orford, New
Norfolk, Bothwell, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play
equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to
TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when
driving.
