SEVERE STORMS IN EASTERN NSW

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large, possibly giant hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Gosford, Sydney, Penrith, Parramatta, Wollongong and Katoomba.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, South Coast, Southern Tablelands and Northern Tablelands districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

43 mm was observed at Terrey Hills AWS in the 30mins to 8.45pm.

Golf-ball sized hail (4.2cm) reported at Stanhope Gardens around 6pm.

Golf-ball sized hail (4.2cm) reported at Kellyville around 6.30pm.

45 mm was recorded at Doughboy Hill (near Braidwood) in the 2hrs to 4.15pm.

41 mm was observed at Big Hill (Glen Dusk near Goulburn) in the 1hr to 4.30pm.

82 mm was recorded at Murray's Flat (Wollondilly River) near Goulburn in the 2hrs to 3.30pm.

43 mm was recorded at Goulburn Water Treatment Works in the 2hrs to 2pm.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
