BLUSTERY WINDS OVER THE SOUTHERN RANGES

Weather Situation: Vigourous west to northwesterly winds are expected ahead of an approaching cold front, which will move through the southeast of NSW today. Following the front, winds will ease before a second cold front moves through on Saturday, bringing another burst of strong winds.

DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are likely for parts of the Southern Tablelands, Central Tablelands, Illawarrra and South coast today. The warning area will expand on Saturday to include parts of the Snowy Mountians.

Winds should ease by Friday evening following the passage of the front, though will increase again early on Saturday.

Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Batemans Bay, Eden, Goulburn, Cooma, Yass and Bombala.

Thredbo AWS recorded an average wind speed of 87 km/h at 3:20am Friday, and a gust of 120 km/h at 3:52am Friday..

Moss Vale AWS recorded a wind gust of 90km/h at around 1:00pm Friday.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid on 131 388, or Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or Essential Energy on 132 080, as shown on your power bill.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
