Weather Situation:
A tropical low located in the eastern Gulf of Carpentaria expected
to develop into a tropical cyclone on Wednesday. Squally rain bands
with embedded thunderstorms associated with the low are expected to
the affect the western Cape York Peninsula.
Damaging winds, with peak gusts to 100km/h, are possible about the
western Cape York Peninsula coastal areas between Weipa and
Pormpuraaw today.
The damaging wind gusts may extend to Thursday Island and to
inland areas of Cape York Peninsula on Wednesday, depending on the
movement and intensity of the tropical low.
Locations which may be affected include Weipa, Aurukun, Old Mapoon
and Pormpuraaw.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
