Convergent zone causing heavy activity from Bribie Island to
Brisbane City
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 8:55 am, severe
thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Brisbane CBD
and Strathpine. These thunderstorms are slow moving. They are
forecast to affect Slacks Creek, Tingalpa Reservoir and Manly by
9:25 am and Logan City and Greenbank by 9:55 am.
Heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding is likely.
65mm has been recorded within 1 hour at Banksia Beach (Bribie
Island) to 8:30am
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded,
forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
