Initial Flood Watch for Huon and Derwent River Basins

Continued river rises are expected in the Huon and Derwent catchments and minor flooding may develop at some locations from Saturday.

A vigorous cold front front will cross Tasmania on Saturday morning, bringing a colder southwesterly stream which will continue throughout Sunday and Monday.

In the 36 hours to 4pm Friday, widespread rainfall totals of 20-40 mm have been recorded. Huon and Derwent catchment areas are relatively wet.

Persistent showers are expected through to Monday. Rainfall totals of 20-50 mm are expected across the weekend, with higher totals up to 80 mm possible in isolated and elevated areas.

Continued river rises are expected in the Huon river and River Derwent and its tributaries over the weekend. Minor flooding may develop at some locations from Saturday.

Further catchment specific warnings will be issued if and when required.
