INITIAL FLOOD WATCH FOR ALL NORTH EASTERN RIVER BASINS AND THE HUON RIVER

Issued at 11:24 am EST on Friday 11 August 2017

A flood watch has been issued for North Eastern river basins and the Huon River.

A strong westerly flow will persist over the State during Friday and Saturday. An embedded front will approach from north west during Friday evening and cross the State overnight. Rainfall totals of 20 to 50 mm are forecast in the north east and across the Huon River catchment from Friday into Saturday, with potentially higher totals up to 60mm in elevated areas in the south.

River rises are expected. Minor flooding may develop in some catchments from early Saturday onwards. Further catchment specific warnings will be issued if and when required.

Strong and dangerous flows are possible in small creeks and low lying areas in locations that receive heavy rainfall.
