Damaging winds about Alpine Areas easing this afternoon.

Weather Situation: A cold front crossing the State will clear eastwards this afternoon.
DAMAGING NORTH TO NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h, are expected about Alpine areas (above 1200 metres) this afternoon.
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 90 km/h are also possible about South Gippsland coast this afternoon.

Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds by late afternoon.

Locations which may be affected include Tidal River, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buller.

Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Central, South West and North Central districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

Highest wind gusts since midnight :
113km/h at Mt William at 1:38am.
107km/h at Mt Buller at 8.27am.
96km/h at Mt Hotham at 8.02am.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
