Strong northwesterly winds developing over alpine areas Friday morning

Weather Situation: Northwesterly winds are expected to strengthen over elevated parts of eastern Victoria ahead of a cold front.
DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 90 to 100 km/h are possible over Alpine areas (above 1200 metres elevation) of eastern Victoria on Friday morning.

Winds are expected to ease early Friday afternoon following the passage of a cold front.

Locations which may be affected include Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buller and Mt Baw Baw.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
