Gusty winds developing about the eastern ranges Thursday

Weather Situation: Strengthening north to northwesterly winds ahead of a cold front

DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are possible about the eastern ranges (above 1200m elevation) From mid THURSDAY morning, mainly on slopes with a northwesterly facing aspect. The risk of damaging wind gusts is expected to ease later THURSDAY afternoon following the passage of a cold front.

Locations which may be affected include Mt Baw Baw, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham and Mt Buller.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
* Keep clear of fallen power lines;
