SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH GIANT HAIL AND POSSIBLE DESTRUCTIVE WINDS THROUGH PARTS OF SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND.

Weather Situation: Moisture and deep instability along and to the east of a surface trough is promoting the development of severe thunderstorm activity this evening.

VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce large, possibly giant hailstones, damaging, locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett district. Locations which may be affected include Cherbourg, Tiaro, Wondai, Murgon and Biggenden.

VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce large, possibly giant hailstones, damaging, locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Southeast Coast and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Jimboomba, Boonah, Beaudesert, Mount Tamborine, Beenleigh and Springbrook.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Central Highlands and Coalfields district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

5 CM HAIL REPORTED AT TAMBORINE AT 8:10 PM.

7 CM HAIL REPORTED AT WATTLE CAMP AT 8:00 PM.

7 CM HAIL REPORTED EAST OF KINGAROY AT 7:55 PM.

7 CM HAIL REPORTED AT YARRAMAN AT 5:40 PM.

8 CM HAIL REPORTED AT GOOGA CREEK AT 5:15PM.

3 cm hail reported west of Jimbooba at 7:30 pm.

104 km/h wind gust was recorded at Cloncurry Airport at 03:23 pm.

Emergency services advise people to:
* If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust.
* Pack away, secure or tie down outdoor furniture, toys and trampolines if it s safe to do so.
* Stay away from windows if there is giant hail.
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
