Damaging winds continuing today.

Weather Situation: A strong westerly flow over southeast Australia will peak over NSW and ACT as an embedded low moves out of Bass Strait and an associated cold front crosses southern to central parts of NSW during the day.

For the SNOWY MOUNTAINS, the ACT (including CANBERRA), SOUTH COAST, SOUTHERN TABLELANDS and adjacent parts of the SOUTHWEST SLOPES: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts up to 100 km/h are possible today. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 110 km/h are possible over higher elevations during the late morning and early afternoon.

For ALPINE AREAS above 1900 m: DAMAGING WINDS may average 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 110 km/h possible during the late morning and afternoon.

For the SYDNEY METROPOLITAN, ILLAWARRA, CENTRAL TABLELANDS, BLUE MOUNTAINS and HUNTER: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely. The peak of the risk is until mid afternoon, or with shower activity in the south. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 110km/h are possible across elevations above 500m during morning and early afternoon.

The risk of damaging winds is expected to become confined to higher elevations in the south by the evening and ease below warning thresholds in the late evening.

Locations which may be affected include Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Batemans Bay, Eden, Katoomba, Oberon, Canberra, Goulburn, Cooma, Yass and Thredbo.

109 km/h gust recorded at Cabramurra at 6:47 am Monday.

106 km/h wind gust was recorded at Bombala at 5:20 am Monday.

98 km/h wind gust was recorded at Perisher Valley at 8:48 am Monday.

91 km/h wind gust was recorded at Braidwood at 9:36 am Monday.

104 km/h wind gust was recorded at Cabramurra at 9:43 am Monday.

107 km/h wind gust was recorded at High Range (Wanganderry) at 9:44 am Monday.

98 km/h wind gusts was recorded at Nerriga at 9:46 am Monday.

104 km/h wind gust was recorded at Nowra at 9:52 am Monday.

98 km/h wind gust was recorded at Mount Boyce at 10:00 am Monday.

91 km/h wind gust was recorded at Kurnell at 10:28 am Monday.

96 km/h wind gust was recorded at Goulburn at 10:30 am Monday.

98 km/h wind gust was recorded at Moss Vale at 10:37 am Monday.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
