Flood Watch Number: 5

LOCALISED FLOODING OCCURRING AND FURTHER RISES LIKELY

Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina is moving west-southwest through the Timor Sea, slowly moving away from the coast, but still impacting areas of the western Top End where widespread rainfall will continue on Sunday and into Monday. The heaviest falls will most likely be about the west coast, gradually contracting southwards, though may occur in bands of rain away from the cyclone.

Most of the North West Coastal River catchments are wet to saturated from recent rainfall and storms. Widespread rainfall totals of between 100 - 200 mm have been recorded in the 24 hours to 9 am Sunday, with an isolated total in excess of 400 mm recorded. Areas of heavy to intense rainfall are still likely as Severe Tropical Cyclone Fina moves west-southwest during the remainder of Sunday and into Monday.

Significant rises in creeks and rivers and areas of flooding are occurring, with further rises likely throughout the Flood Watch area across the next few days. Roads may become impassable and some communities and homesteads may become isolated.

A Tropical Cyclone Advice and the associated Forecast Track Map remain current. A severe weather warning is also current.

Fitzmaurice River

Moyle River

Lower Daly River

Finniss River
