Heavy rainfall continuing in thunderstorms around Alice
Springs.
Weather Situation: A moist airmass combined with a tropical low in
the south of the state is combining to produce severe thunderstorms
with heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding. Thunderstorms
are slowly moving to the east and south east and are likely to
begin to ease later this morning.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may
lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several
hours. Locations which may be affected include Alice Springs,
Arltunga and Santa Teresa.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is also current for
southern parts of the Simpson district. For more information refer

66.5 mm was recorded at Wigley Gorge in the 6 hours to 6:37
am.
74.0 mm was recorded at Bond Springs Turnoff in the 6 hours to
6:30 am.
66.0 mm was recorded at Mount Lloyd in the 6 hours to 6:18
am.
76.0 mm was recorded at Colyer Creek in the 6 hours to 6:13
am.
The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people
should:
* slow down and turn your headlights on
* create your own sandbags if there is flooding, by using pillow
cases or shopping bags filled with sand and place them around
doorways to protect your home
* secure loose outside objects
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with
your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
* for emergency help in floods, storms and cyclones, contact the
