POTENTIAL TSUNAMI THREAT TO NORTHERN TERRITORY AND CHRISTMAS
ISLAND

SUMMARY:
An undersea earthquake of magnitude 8.0 has occurred at 9:37 AM
AEST on Monday 8
June 2026 near MINDANAO, PHILIPPINES.
AT THIS STAGE NO TSUNAMI WAVES HAVE BEEN OBSERVED THAT MAY
THREATEN AUSTRALIA.
If a tsunami has been generated, it may start affecting the
following States and
Territories after these local times:
Northern Territory after 2:30 PM ACST Monday
Christmas Island after 12:00 PM local time Monday
The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre is closely monitoring
the situation
and will advise immediately if there is cause for concern.
