Flood Watch Number: 6
MINOR TO MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE IN BURDEKIN AND PROSERPINE
CATCHMENTS FROM SUNDAY
A tropical low near the northeast tropical coast is combining with
a ridge to enhance onshore winds and drive deep moisture and
enhanced rainfall over the North Tropical Coast, Central Coast and
Burdekin catchment.
Catchments across the Flood Watch area are wet after recent
rainfall and will respond quickly to further rainfall.
Heavy rainfall is forecast across the Flood Watch area from the
remainder of Saturday and across the weekend.
A Severe Weather Warning is also current for parts of the North
Tropical Coast, Tablelands, Herbert and Lower Burdekin.
River level rises and flooding are likely in parts of the Flood
Watch area from Sunday. Elevated tides are also occurring which may
enhance flooding in coastal parts of the lower Burdekin.
Isolation of communities and disruption to transport routes are
possible over the next few days.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Belyando and Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam
Cape River to Burdekin Falls Dam
