MINOR TO MAJOR FLOODING IS CURRENT ACROSS MULTIPLE CATCHMENTS IN
THE NORTH TROPICAL COAST, CENTRAL COAST, GULF, AND LAKE EYRE
BASIN.
FURTHER FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF THE GULF COUNTRY AND
WESTERN CAPE YORK PENINSULA CATCHMENTS OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS
A new wave of increased monsoonal activity is occurring across
parts of northern Queensland extending to the tropical coast. The
monsoon is expected to remain active through the weekend and early
next week with widespread and heavy falls.
Catchments across the Flood Watch area are dry to wet in some
areas.
Isolated heavy rainfall with areas of monsoonal rain and isolated
thunderstorms is possible over much of northern Queensland and
parts of inland Queensland for the next several days.
River level rises and flooding is possible across the Flood Watch
area. Elevated tides are also occurring which may enhance flooding
in coastal parts of the Flood Watch area.
Isolation of communities and disruption to transport routes are
possible over the next few days.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Leichhardt River
Cloncurry River
Coleman and Edward Rivers
Mitchell River
Staaten River
Flood warnings are current for the following catchments: Norman
and Gilbert Rivers, Tully and Murray Rivers, Herbert River, Ross,
Bohle and Black Rivers and Bluewater Creek, Haughton River, Don and
Proserpine Rivers, Connors and Isaac Rivers, Pioneer River,
Diamantina River, Flinders River, Thomson and Barcoo Rivers and
parts of the Burdekin River.
