Flood Watch Number: 16

MINOR TO MAJOR FLOODING IS CURRENT ACROSS MULTIPLE CATCHMENTS IN THE NORTH TROPICAL COAST, CENTRAL COAST, GULF, AND LAKE EYRE BASIN.

FURTHER FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF THE GULF COUNTRY AND WESTERN CAPE YORK PENINSULA CATCHMENTS OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS

Monsoon trough lies over the (inland) Gulf Country eastwards to the Herbert/Burdekin coast. The trough is likely to remain slow moving over Sunday and the following few days. A low over the Gulf country of Queensland is likely to move slowly east across the base of Cape York Peninsula during Monday to Tuesday, with some gradual deepening possible.

Catchments across the Flood Watch area are gradually becoming wet with recent rainfall.

Moderate to localised heavy rainfall is expected to continue near the monsoon trough position, including through inland parts for the next several days.

River level rises and areas of flooding are possible across the Flood Watch area. Elevated tides are also occurring which may enhance flooding in coastal parts of the Flood Watch area.

Isolation of communities and disruption to transport routes are possible over the next few days.

Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current in parts of Peninsula, Gulf Country, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

Settlement Creek

Nicholson River

Leichhardt River

Cloncurry River

Coleman and Edward Rivers

Mitchell River

Staaten River

Flood warnings are current for the following catchments: Norman and Gilbert Rivers, Tully and Murray Rivers, Herbert River, Ross, Bohle and Black Rivers and Bluewater Creek, Haughton River, Don and Proserpine Rivers, Connors and Isaac Rivers, Diamantina River, Flinders River, Thomson and Barcoo Rivers, and Burdekin River.
