FURTHER FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF THE WESTERN CAPE YORK
PENINSULA CATCHMENTS OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS
MINOR TO MAJOR FLOODING CONTINUES ACROSS MULTIPLE CATCHMENTS IN
THE NORTH TROPICAL COAST, CENTRAL COAST, GULF COUNTRY, AND LAKE
EYRE BASIN
Showers and thunderstorms will continue over northern Queensland
for several days
Catchments across the Flood Watch area are very wet from recent
rainfall and will respond quickly to further rainfall.
Rainfall is expected to continue to ease over the Flood Watch area
into Friday. Isolated moderate rainfall is possible for the Flood
Watch area for the next few days.
River level rises and areas of flooding are occurring across the
Flood Watch area, with moderate flooding occurring along the
Magnificent Creek at Kowanyama. Further river level rises are
possible over the next few days with the arrival of upstream
floodwaters. Elevated tides are also occurring which may enhance
flooding in coastal parts of the Flood Watch area.
Isolation of communities and disruption to transport routes is
occurring and expected to continue over the next few days.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Coleman and Edward Rivers
Mitchell River(Including Magnificent Creek)
Staaten River
Flood warnings are current for the following catchments: Norman
and Gilbert Rivers, Tully River, Herbert River, Ross, River,
Connors and Isaac Rivers, Western and Diamantina Rivers, Nicholson
and Gregory Rivers, Flinders River, Thomson and Barcoo Rivers and
Burdekin River.
