Flood Watch Number: 2
WIDESPREAD MINOR TO MAJOR FLOODING WITH SIGNIFICANT LOCALISED
FLOODING LIKELY LATER THIS WEEK
Rainfall associated with Tropical Cyclone Alfred has the potential
to cause major flooding along Queensland coastal rivers from
Maryborough to the NSW Border.
Isolated flooding may develop from overnight Wednesday, with more
widespread flooding likely from overnight Thursday into Friday,
continuing into early next week.
The location of the heaviest rainfall and most severe flooding
will depend on the track of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Heavy and
locally intense rainfall is forecast from Wednesday over South East
Queensland, as the Tropical Cyclone approaches the coast late on
Thursday or early Friday. The heaviest rainfall will be south of
the Tropical Cyclone track.
Catchments are dry to moderately wet across the Flood Watch
area.
High tides and large waves are expected to increase the flood risk
and impacts in low lying coastal areas.
Rapid river level rises and flash flooding are expected across
many creeks, associated with the heaviest rainfall. Widespread
minor to major riverine flooding is possible. Areas at risk will
continue to be revised during the coming days.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Mary River
Noosa River
Sunshine Coast Rivers and Creeks
Pine and Caboolture Rivers
Upper Brisbane River
Lower Brisbane River(Including creeks in Ipswich and
Brisbane)
Logan and Albert Rivers
Gold Coast Rivers and Creeks
