Capricornia and Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast
Districts.
Issued at 3:36 pm Friday, 31 October 2025.
POSSIBLE GIANT HAIL AND DESTRUCTIVE WINDS IN SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS
OVER SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS.
Weather Situation: Strong heating of moist airmass over
southeastern and central Queensland east of a surface trough is
leading to moderately strong instability. This is combining with
strong winds in the upper atmosphere to provide a favourable
environment for the development of scattered severe thunderstorms
this afternoon and evening.
VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce large, possibly
giant hailstones, damaging, locally destructive winds and heavy
rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over
the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include
Toowoomba, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Gympie, Ipswich, Kingaroy,
Cleveland, Gatton, Jimboomba and Caboolture.
3 TO 7 CM HAIL REPORTED AT REDCLIFFE APPROXIMATELY 3:00 PM.
5 TO 7 CM HAIL REPORTED AT LAIDLEY CREEK AT APPROXIMATELY 2:30
PM.
3 cm hail reported at Peregian at 2:05 pm.
4 cm hail reported near Gatton at 1:50 pm.
