Heavy rainfall continues about northeast Qld tonight.

Weather Situation: Thunderstorms have developed along a trough extending across the north of the state. An airmass rich in moisture will result in a risk of heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and showers.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Townsville, Hamilton Island, Ayr, Giru, Alva Beach and Clare.

176 mm of rainfall recorded at O'Connell in the 6 hours to 10:00 pm

152 mm of rainfall recorded at Antoneys Crossing in the 3 hours to 6:42 pm

99 mm of rainfall recorded at Major Creek in the 2 hours to 4:47 pm

42 mm of rainfall recorded at Redbank Creek in the 30 minutes to 3:55 pm

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
