Severe thunderstorms developing over the far southwest of the State overnight

Weather Situation: An unstable airmass over the southwest with a strong jet stream leading to the development of severe thunderstorms overnight

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Birdsville.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West and Maranoa and Warrego districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

Roma Airport recorded a 98 km/h wind gust at 6:42pm with a thunderstorm.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
