Severe thunderstorms about Southeast Queensland and Carnarvon Ranges this afternoon.

Weather Situation: An trough is helping trigger thunderstorms inland this afternoon with the chance of heavy rainfall, large hail, and damaging winds. A strong southeasterly surge may also trigger storms later this afternoon.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Central Highlands and Coalfields districts. Locations which may be affected include Dalby, Kingaroy, Wondai and Mundubbera.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields and Central West districts. Locations which may be affected include Springsure, Carnarvon National Park and Mantuan Downs.

39 mm of rainfall was recorded at Mt Playfair (Carnarvon NP) in the 30 minutes to 4:24 pm.

43 mm of rainfall was recorded on the O'Connor (west of Millmerran) in the 30 minutes 3.05 pm.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
