Issued at 8:09 am Saturday, 1 March 2025.
Damaging winds developing about the exposed Wide Bay and
Capricornia coasts and islands this evening.
Weather Situation: At 7 am AEST Saturday, Severe Tropical Cyclone
Alfred (category 3) was located about 525 kilometres northeast of
Bundaberg. Alfred is forecast to move a little to the south
southwest closer to the Queensland coast today and overnight,
before tracking southeast and further away from the coast during
the remainder of Sunday and Monday, with the centre expected to
remain well off the coast. However, Alfred is producing a large
area of gale force winds on its southwestern flank, and there is a
risk the system may approach close enough to the coast to produce a
period of gales and damaging wind gusts about the coastal fringe
overnight tonight and during Sunday.
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 65 km/h with peak gusts 90 km/h may
develop about coastal parts of the southern Capricornia and Wide
Bay and Burnett from late this evening and during Sunday.
A separate Coastal Hazard Warning is current for the Wide Bay and
Southeast Coast of Queensland.
A Tropical Cyclone Information Bulletin and Forecast Track Map is
current for Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger
asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes
out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be
identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are
dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has
passed.
