Initial Flood Watch for the Western, Northern, Southern, South
East and parts of the North East catchments
Issued at 12:33 pm AEST on Monday 29 September 2025
Flood Watch Number: 1
MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE ACROSS MULTIPLE CATCHMENTS DURING THIS
WEEK
A low-pressure system is forecast to lie near the west coast of
Tasmania on Tuesday. The low will move to the south during
Wednesday and is forecast to clear to the southeast on
Thursday.
Showers and rain are forecast to increase across the state during
Tuesday and continue during Wednesday, then ease during Thursday.
Moderate to heavy rain is possible at times, particularly about
northern facing terrain in the northwest, including the Western
Tiers, or with thunderstorms at times.
Catchments are wet and will respond quickly to rainfall.
River level rises are likely, and minor flooding is possible
across the Flood Watch area from late Tuesday. There is some
uncertainty in the position of the low and consequently the
location of the most significant river rises. River rises and
possible minor flooding are more likely to occur in the north and
north east from late Tuesday, and in the south and south east from
Wednesday.
Localised flooding of rivulets, small creeks and low-lying areas
may occur in locations that receive higher rainfall. Isolated heavy
rainfall can result in rapid stream rises and strong flows
particularly in the East and South of the State.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Coal River
Derwent River
Jordan River
South East
Huon River
Channel Coastal Rivers (South East Cape to Gordon)
Gordon-Franklin Rivers
King-Henty Rivers
Pieman River
Nelson Bay Coastal Rivers
Arthur River
King Island
Northwest and Central Coastal Rivers
Forth River
Mersey River
Meander River
Macquarie River
South Esk River
