Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms are persisting over central and eastern Tasmania

Weather Situation:
A slow moving low pressure system over western Bass Strait is bringing moist and unstable conditions over the state tonight, leading to isolated heavy rainfall with thunderstorms embedded within broader rain areas that are slowly moving to the southeast.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include St Helens, Swansea, New Norfolk, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the North West Coast district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

22.2 mm was recorded at Hummocky Hills in the 1 hour to 10:00 pm.

27.6 mm was recorded at Strathgordon in the 2 hours to 10:00 pm.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
