Damaging northwesterly winds are possible across parts of the state on Saturday.

Weather Situation: A strong northwesterly flow will develop ahead of an approaching cold front, which moves over the state on Saturday.

DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely to develop over western and central parts of the state during early Saturday morning, particularly over elevated areas.

Strong winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 100 km/h may also develop over parts of the East Coast district during Saturday morning.

Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds in the west during Saturday afternoon and clear through central and eastern parts of the state by the early evening as the front moves through.

Locations which may be affected include Swansea, Strahan, Queenstown, Bothwell, Geeveston and Dover.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
