Bushfire WATCH AND ACT for parts of CALLCUP, CROWEA and MEERUP in the SHIRE OF MANJIMUP

A bushfire WATCH AND ACT is in place for people in an area bounded by the intersection of Plantation Road and Stockpile Road, along Stockpile Road to the east to Marri Road, north east on Marri Road and continuing on to Mulleta Road to Gloucester Road. A direct line south east to the intersection of Rifle Range Road and Tattenham Road. South east on Tattenham Road to intersection of Caesia Road. A direct line west to the intersection of Ryder and Lewis Road, western boundary of the Dombakup pine plantation and north east on Plantation Road in parts of CALLCUP, CROWEA and MEERUP in the SHIRE OF MANJIMUP. . .

There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a uncontrolled bushfire is burning in the area and people still need to stay alert.
The fire started near the intersection of Tattenham Road in Meerup.

WHAT TO DO

If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear.
If you are well prepared and plan to actively defend your home, make final preparations now.
If you plan to stay and actively defend, do not rely on mains water pressure as it may be affected. You need to have access to an independent water supply, and start patrolling your property to put out spot fires.
Keep doors and windows closed and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.
If you are not at home, do not try to return as conditions in the area could be very dangerous.

Bushfire ADVICE for parts of CALLCUP, CROWEA and MEERUP in the SHIRE OF MANJIMUP

A bushfire ADVICE is in place for people in an area bounded by Gumnut Road, Tattenham Road, Richardson Road, west to Warren Beach Track, due north to Yeagarup Road, to Larkin Road, Barker Road and Pemberton-Northcliffe Road in parts of CALLCUP, CROWEA and MEERUP in the SHIRE OF MANJIMUP.

There is a lot of smoke in the area.
Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.

WHAT TO DO

Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.
Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.
Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.
Read through your bushfire survival plan.

If driving

Be extremely careful when driving through the area.
Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.
Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.
If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.

The bushfire is stationary.
It is currently contained but not controlled.

ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS

Avoid the area and be aware of fire and emergency services personnel working on site.
A number of roads have been closed including:

Gloucester Road
Rifle Range Road
Lewis Road
Warren Beach Track
Local government roads including Gumnut Road, Tattenham Road and Calcup Road.
Local tracks within Warren National Park

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map, calling 138 138 or by contacting your Local Government Authority.
ANIMAL WELFARE

Owners or carers of livestock, pets and companion animals should activate their own animal welfare plan. During a bushfire take advice from Local Government Authorities to protect the lives of your animals while keeping yourself safe.

Warren National Park remains closed, including:

Drafty's Campground
Warren Campground
Heartbreak Trail

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING

Firefighters are actively patrolling and mopping up the fireground.
74 Parks and Wildlife Service, FPC and Local Volunteer Bushfire Brigades firefighters are attending.

23 trucks and 9 heavy machinery appliances are in use at the incident

DRONES AND AERIAL SUPPORT

Never fly a drone, model aircraft or multirotor near bushfires. Doing so poses a major safety risk to firefighting personnel in the air and on the ground, and forces aircraft to be grounded or redirected, hindering firefighting efforts.
EXTRA INFORMATION

The fire was reported at 02:51 PM on 19 December 2023.
Currently there has been approximately 2000 hectares burnt.
The cause of the fire is accidental.
Parks and Wildlife Service is managing the fire.
