Bushfire Watch and Act
MONITOR CONDITIONS - IMINTJI - WUNAAMIN MILIWUNDI RANGES (KING LEOPOLD RANGES)

A Bushfire Watch and Act is in place for people travelling along Gibb River Road, including IMINTJI community in the WUNAAMIN MILIWUNDI RANGES (KING LEOPOLD RANGES) in the SHIRE OF DERBY/WEST KIMBERLEY.

The alert level for this fire has been upgraded as weather conditions are changing and the bushfire has breached containment lines.

Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.

WHAT TO DO

Stay alert and monitor your surroundings as conditions could change.

You may need to act quickly so ensure you are prepared if the situation gets worse.

Read through your bushfire plan. If you do not have a plan make one by visiting My Bushfire Plan.

Have your emergency kit ready.

If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear.

If you find it hard to move quickly, leaving now is your safest option.

Keep your doors and windows closed to keep out smoke.

Continue to patrol your property and be ready to put out spot fires.

If you plan to stay and defend ensure you are mentally and physically prepared, with protective clothing and an independent water supply.

Bushfire behaviour

The bushfire is moving in a west south-westerly direction.

It is not contained or controlled.

Road closures and conditions

Roads have not been closed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully. Road information may also be available from Main Roads WA by visiting the Main Roads Travel Map, calling 138 138 or by contacting your Local Government Authority.

What firefighters are doing

DBCA firefighters and pastoralists are strengthening containment lines.

Animal Welfare

Owners or carers of livestock, pets and companion animals should activate their own animal welfare plan. During a bushfire take advice from Local Government Authorities to protect the lives of your animals while keeping yourself safe.

The incident was reported at 3.50pm on 2 September 2024.

People are asked to report any suspicious behaviour to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
