A bush fire is burning in the vicinity of the Narran Lake Nature Reserve area, approximately 70km north west of Walgett and 50km south west of Lightning Ridge. The fire has burnt more than 18,100ha and is yet to be controlled.

Current Situation
Fire activity decreased across the fireground yesterday evening and some light rain fell across parts of the fireground overnight.
South westerly winds and high temperatures are forecast for today which may push the fire towards the area of Grawin.
There are reports of properties being impacted in the Glengarry area and Building Impact Assessment Teams will be in the area from today to assess loss and damage.
Firefighters, heavy plant and waterbombing aircraft will once again be working across the fireground today in an effort to contain the fire.

What you need to do
Residents in the areas of Glengarry and Grawin should stay alert and monitor your surroundings.
If you stayed to defend your property monitor both inside and outside for small fires and burning embers.
Be careful outdoors after the fire has passed as trees can be unstable and fall.

If you are threatened by fire
If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure such as a house to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
Bring pets indoors and restrain them, close all doors and windows and turn off air conditioners, keep water running if possible.
Shelter in a room on the other side of the building from the approaching fire, and one that has water and a clear exit out of the house.
Monitor both inside and outside for small fires and burning embers and turn sprinklers on if you have them.

Be careful outdoors after the fire has passed as trees can be unstable and fall.

A Bush Fire Information Point has been setup at the at the following location:

Grawin Club in the Scrub, Opal Field Rd, from 11am, Thursday 16 November.

Evacuation Centres
An Evacuation Centre has been opened at the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club, Corner of Morilla and Agate Streets, Lightning Ridge, for those in the Glengarry and Grawin areas that may have relocated.
For those who wish to leave the area, but not not have their own transport, a bus will leave the Club in the Scrub at 12pm today, Thursday 16th, for the Evacuation Centre in Lightning Ridge.
