Damaging winds in the southeast this morning.

Weather Situation: In the wake of a cold front that crossed the state last night strong west to south westerly winds with damaging wind gusts are likely over elevated areas near Thredbo as well as parts of the Illawarra, South coast, Goulburn and Katoomba. Conditions are expected to ease by Monday afternoon.

For areas in the SOUTHEAST:
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h are likely until Monday afternoon.

For ALPINE PEAKS above 1900 m:
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 km/h with peak gusts up to 125 km/h are possible.
Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds by Monday afternoon.

Locations which may be affected include Nowra, Bowral, Braidwood, Katoomba, Goulburn and Selwyn.

128km/h wind gust was recorded at Thredbo at 7:47pm on the 25/08/2024.
119km/hr wind gust was recorded at Cabramurra at 11:56pm on the 25/08/2024.
96 km/hr wind gust was recorded at Nowra at 01:19am on the 26/08/2024.
93 km/hr wind gust was recorded at Moss Vale at 12:43am on the 26/08/2024.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
