Flood Watch Number: 5
MODERATE TO MAJOR FLOODING LIKELY ACROSS PARTS OF THE FLOOD WATCH
AREA FROM SATURDAY
A tropical low in the Coral Sea is combining with a ridge to
enhance onshore winds and drive deep moisture and enhanced rainfall
over the North Tropical Coast and Central Coast and Burdekin
catchment.
Catchments across the Flood Watch area are wet after recent
rainfall and will respond quickly to further rainfall.
Heavy rainfall is forecast across the Flood Watch area from Friday
and especially over the weekend.
A Severe Weather Warning is also current for parts of the North
Tropical Coast, Tablelands, Herbert and Lower Burdekin.
Renewed river level rises and flooding is likely in parts of the
Flood Watch area from Friday evening. Elevated tides are also
occurring which may enhance flooding in coastal areas.
Isolation of communities and disruption to transport routes are
possible over the next few days.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Johnstone River
Murray River
Herbert River
Black River
Ross and Bohle Rivers
Haughton River
Burdekin River to Burdekin Falls Dam
Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam
Don and Proserpine Rivers
Flood warnings are current for the following catchments: Tully
