Number: 11
WIDESPREAD MINOR TO MAJOR FLOODING CONTINUING ACROSS QUEENSLAND
WITH FURTHER FLOODING POSSIBLE ACROSS PARTS OF THE GULF COUNTRY AND
CAPE YORK PENINSULA
A trough and moist tropical airmass lingers across the southern
Gulf of Carpentaria Coast and Cape York Peninsula. This trough may
bring moderate to locally heavy rainfall across parts of the Cape
York Peninsula and Gulf Country that will begin to ease from
Saturday. Further flooding is possible over the next few
days.
Catchments across the Flood Watch area are wet to saturated from
recent rainfall, and will respond quickly to further heavy
rainfall.
Rapid river level rises and localised flooding are possible in
areas of heavy rainfall. Disruption to transport routes is likely
across parts of the Flood Watch area.
Widespread minor to major flooding is continuing across large
parts of Queensland, with multiple Flood Warnings current.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Leichhardt River
Cloncurry River
Staaten River
Mitchell River (elevated levels expected along Magnificent
Creek at Kowanyama)
