Flood Watch Number: 1
MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE FROM LATE TUESDAY
MORNING
A trough is combining with a ridge to enhance onshore winds and
rainfall over the northeast coast of Queensland. The trough will
slowly deepen over the next several days and may develop into a
monsoon trough later this week. Rainfall is forecast to increase
over the North Tropical Coast over this period, particularly
between Innisfail and Ingham later Monday into Tuesday.
Catchments across the Flood Watch area are wetting-up after recent
rainfall and will be relatively responsive to heavy rainfall.
Rainfall is forecast to increase from late Monday afternoon and
continue through much of Tuesday. Moderate to heavy rainfall is
forecast over the Flood Watch area. There is uncertainty in the
timing and location of the heaviest rainfall, however the heaviest
rainfall is likely to occur close to the coast and over the higher
ground.
Localised river level rises and flash flooding are likely within
the areas of heaviest rainfall. Minor to moderate flooding is
possible from late Tuesday morning across the Flood Watch
area.
Isolation of communities and disruption to transport routes are
possible over the next few days.
Rainfall is forecast to continue over the North Tropical Coast for
much of the week, depending on the position and strength of the
trough, as well as any tropical lows that may form. This Flood
Watch may well be expanded to include additional catchments in the
coming days.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
Johnstone River
Tully River
Murray River
Herbert River
