Damaging winds with a vigorous front over the southwest from
Friday morning.
Weather Situation: Strong north to northwesterly winds are
expected to develop ahead of a vigorous cold front approaching the
southwest of the state on Friday morning. Winds are expected to
shift westerly in its wake during the afternoon, easing
conditions.
DAMAGING WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 90
km/h are possible from late Friday morning. Winds are expected to
ease below warning conditions by Friday evening.
Locations which may be affected include Birdsville, Bedourie,
Ballera, Nappa Merrie, Glenormiston and Mt Howitt Station.
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger
asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes
out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be
identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are
dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has
passed.
