Damaging wind gusts developing ahead of a vigorous front over the
southwest during today.
Weather Situation: Strong north to northwesterly winds are
expected to develop ahead of a vigorous cold front approaching the
southwest of the state this morning. Winds are expected to shift
westerly in its wake during the afternoon, with conditions
easing.
Strong north to northwesterly winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h are possible over the Channel
Country from late morning.
Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds by Friday
evening.
Locations which may be affected include Birdsville, Bedourie,
Ballera, Orientos, Glenormiston and Mt Howitt Station.
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger
asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes
out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be
identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are
dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has
passed.
