Severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall expected over central and eastern Tasmania.

Weather Situation: A trough embedded in a very moist airmass over the state is producing slow-moving thunderstorms capable of heavy rainfall.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include St Helens, Swansea, Orford, New Norfolk, Bothwell and Hobart.

41 mm was recorded at fingal in the 2 hours to 11:25 am.

34.6 mm was recorded at Monameta in the 1 hour to 10:09 am.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
