SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY TO LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL OVER CENTRAL TASMANIA, WITH HEAVY RAINFALL ABOUT PARTS OF THE SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST.

Weather Situation: A trough embedded in a very moist airmass over the state is producing slow-moving thunderstorms capable of heavy rainfall.

VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce heavy, locally intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the North West Coast and Central Plateau districts.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in the Upper Derwent Valley, South East, Central Plateau and parts of the Western, East Coast, North West Coast, Midlands and Central North districts. Locations which may be affected include Orford, New Norfolk, Bothwell, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the North East district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

73 mm was recorded at Fingal in the 6 hours to 1:00 pm.

36.6 mm was recorded Cannells Hill near Huonville in the 1 hour to 1:59 pm

38.8 mm was recorded at Gowan Brea in the 30 minutes to 1:23 pm.

15.2 mm was recorded at North Boomerang (Mt Bobs) in the 30 minutes to 2:45 pm

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
