Severe thunderstorms with heavy to locally intense rainfall
expected over central and eastern Tasmania.
Weather Situation: A trough embedded in a very moist airmass over
the state is producing slow-moving thunderstorms capable of heavy
rainfall.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may
lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several
hours.
More isolated VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS capable of producing
locally intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and
life-threatening flash flooding are possible in the warning area
over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Oatlands, Swansea,
Bicheno, Orford, New Norfolk, Bothwell, Hobart, Geeveston and
Dover.
29 mm was recorded Cannells Hill near Huonville in 30 mins to 1:30
pm
39 mm was recorded at Gowan Brea in the 30 mins to 1:20 pm.
41 mm was recorded at Fingal in the 2 hours to 11:25 am.
34.6 mm was recorded at Monameta in the 1 hour to 10:09 am.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
