This Watch and Act message is being issued for Buninyong, Scotsburn.

There is a bushfire at Mt Buninyong that is not yet under control.

This Watch and Act - Monitor Conditions As They Are Changing, replaces the Watch and Act - Monitor Conditions As They Are Changing issued at 9:38am Thursday March 6, 2025.

The fire is now 51 hectares in size

Steep terrain and exceptional dry fuel loads has seen fire activity increase on Mt Buninyong.

Fire-fighters remain on scene with support from aircraft

A community meeting is planned at 4:00pm Thursday March 6, 2025 at the Buninyong Recreation Reserve, 401-409 Cornish St Buninyong. This meeting will also be live streamed on the Ballarat City & Moorabool Facebook page from 4pm. The community meeting will be recorded and remain on the Facebook pages to watch at a later time if unable to view at 4:00pm.

The Relief Centre at the Buninyong Recreation Reserve, is now closed.

The situation can change at any time. You must monitor conditions, remain vigilant and be ready to act.

What you should do:
Monitor changes to the situation. Increased wind speed, change in wind direction, smoke or poor visibility can indicate the situation is changing.
Enact your fire survival plan.
If you do not have a plan, decide what you will do if the situation changes.
If you have time, check your neighbours to see if they are monitoring conditions.
Protect yourself and your family.
Leave if the situation changes or you feel unsafe.
Remember to:
Take your pets, medications, mobile phone and charger.
Many people have died trying to leave at the last minute during fires.
Travel to the home of family or friends that are away from the warning area or Ballarat.

Impacts in your area:
The following roads are closed:
- The Mount Buninyong tourist road is closed at Blackberry Lane to the top of Mt Buninyong.
- Yendon No 2 Rd between Wiggins Road and the Midland Highway.

Obey all road signage for community safety.

Smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roads.
Trees can be extremely dangerous during a bushfire or high winds. Do not stand, park or travel in areas of fire affected trees.
