FLOODING POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF THE KIMBERLEY AND FITZROY RIVER CATCHMENTS FROM FRIDAY

A broad low pressure trough lies over the Kimberley, extending offshore to a weak low north of the Pilbara, producing heavy rainfall over the Flood Watch area.

Catchments in the generalised Flood Watch area are slightly wet from recent rainfall, leading to river level rises in streams and creeks.

Widespread daily rainfall of 30-60mm are expected on Friday across the Kimberley with isolated falls possibly reaching 70-80mm, however along the far NW Kimberley coast there is chance of isolated falls of 100-150mm.

Minor flooding is possible with forecast rainfall. Flooding may affect road conditions, likely impacting travel and movement across the West Kimberley during the weekend and into next week.

DFES advises people and communities to be aware that flooding is possible and be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock. Watch water levels. Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel plans may need to be reconsidered. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and velocity.
