Heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts over the inland Kimberley
with ex-Tropical Cyclone Dianne, extending south to the North
Interior during Saturday evening.
Weather Situation: at 5pm WST Saturday ex-Tropical Cyclone Dianne
was located approximately 130km south-southeast of Derby. The
system is expected to move south into western parts of the North
Interior overnight.
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for
the inland Kimberley, extending south into the North Interior as
the system tracks south during Saturday night and Sunday.
Six-hourly rainfall totals of 70 to 100 mm are possible, with
isolated totals up to 150 mm. 24-hourly totals of 100 to 150 mm are
possible, with isolated daily falls up to 250 mm.
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 100 kilometres per hour are possible close
to the system and could cause DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY.
Damaging wind gusts are forecast to ease below warning thresholds
Sunday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Balgo, Fitzroy Crossing
and Kiwirrkurra.
Derby recorded 170 mm and Curtin RAAF Base recorded 134 mm of
rainfall over 24 hours as the system moved through.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people
should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm
water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from
windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones
if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power
lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and
waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should
always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance
company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly
damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
